Rules regarding remote participation in the "24-hour Comics Day"
Article 1 : Purpose of the event
LA MAISON DES AUTEURS of the CITÉ INTERNATIONALE de la BANDE DESSINÉE et de l'IMAGE, which is located at 121 rue de Bordeaux – 16000 Angoulême as well as the ANGOULEME INTERNATIONAL COMICS FESTIVAL – hereinafter called the Organizers – are organizing for January 26 and 27, 2010, an event called “The 24 Hours of the Comic Book”.
The purpose of this event is to have each participant, belonging to one of three categories defined below, create 24 drawing plates over a 24 hour time period.
These 24 plates will consist of a front cover, 22 plates and a back cover.
The plates must be made following a constraint defined at the Organizers’ discretion upon the event’s opening.
All the plates will be put online by each of the participants in real time and will be available notably on the Internet sites www.24hdelabandedessinee.com and www.bdangouleme.com up until December 31, 2010. However, the Organizers are entitled to remove them at their own discretion before this date.
Article 2 : Participation conditions for the event
Any individual, regardless of their nationality, wishing to participate in this event may fill in, free of charge, the inscription form which is available on the following Internet address. (www.maisondesauteurs.com). No entry form may be sent through the post.
All these people must fit in one of the following three categories :
1) PROFESSIONALS category
Any person claiming to belong to this category must have obligatorily published:
- either a comic book or illustrated book for young people with a professional publisher,
- or, at least an illustrated story in a trade journal.
Any publication which is privately printed, regardless of its nature, cannot be considered to register in this first category.
Any person allowed to participate in this event in this category, merely on their good faith, will be considered as having hereby certified the information indicated above.
Proof of these publications must be provided upon a mere oral and/or written request by the Organizers.
If, and/or assuming that the Organizers learn these publications are fictitious, the participant will be automatically and immediately excluded from this event. There is no likely recourse after this decision is taken.
After having duly filled in and sent the entry form to the address maisondesauteurs@citebd.org, any person claiming to belong to this first category may be registered as a participant in this event. This is, all the same, under the condition that:
Firstly, that this entry is validated by LA MAISON DES AUTEURS,
Secondly, that a personal and non-transferable access code is given, allowing for a participant account to be opened.
2) ART SCHOOL STUDENTS category
Any person claiming to belong to this category must show that he/she is enrolled for the year 2009/2010 in an Art School, and have a valid student card to prove.
Proof of entry may be given to the Organizers upon a mere oral and/or written request.
After having duly filled in and sent the entry form to the address maisondesauteurs@citebd.org, any person claiming to belong to this second category may be registered as a participant in this event. This is, all the same, under the condition that:
Firstly, the entry is validated by LA MAISON DES AUTEURS,
Secondly, that a personal and non-transferable access code is given, allowing for a participant account to be opened.
3) AMATEURS category
Any person not belonging to the two first categories, will be part of the third category.
Any person belonging to this category must send by email to the address (maisondesauteurs@citebd.org) along two of their illustrated plates where the theme, format and style are left entirely up to them (pdf, maximum 200 Ko each).
Failure to do this will lead to an automatic rejection of the inscription request. There will be no recourse after this decision is taken.
After having duly filled in and sent the inscription form and sent by email the two illustrated plates to the address (maisondesauteurs@citebd.org), any person claiming to belong to this category may be registered as a participant in this event. This is, all the same, under the condition that:
A selection Committee responsible for judging the illustrated plates previously mentioned, has authorized this registration, especially in regards to the quality of the work,
Firstly, that this inscription is validated by LA MAISON DES AUTEURS,
Secondly, that a personal and non-transferable access code is given, allowing for a participant account to be opened.
There is no recourse after the Committee has taken their decision.
In order to participate in this event, any person, regardless of their category, must be of legal age at the time of sending in the duly filled in entry form. No derogation will be granted on this account.
Any person, regardless of their category, wishing to participate in this event, has up until midnight – Paris time – on January 15, 2010 to send in the entry form to the address maisondesauteurs@citebd.org and also, for those belonging to the AMATEURS category, their illustrated plates.
Any entry made after this date and time will be rejected. There will be no recourse after this automatic rejection decision.
The number of participants being limited to 400, the organizers reserve the right not to validate all of the inscriptions.
Article 3 : Participants rights and obligations
The participants keep all the economic and moral rights regarding the 24 illustration plates which they create during the event.
All the participants are committed to create these 24 novel illustrated plates alone. Help from a multimedia author and a draftsman is possible, but this must be specified on the inscription form.
All the participants are committed to put online their illustrated plates, in real time, on the following Internet site: www.24hdelabandedessinee.com. In regards to this, they hereby certify, that they have all the necessary material to put their work online, in particular, high-speed Internet connection, a Web browser and a Scanner allowing for a sufficiently good quality image.
All participants are committed to not put online any contents which are not in compliance with the laws and rules in force. If this should happen, all their illustrated plates with be withdrawn immediately, and without consultation, by the Organizers of the Internet sites on which they were put online. In other words, access to their participant account will be automatically blocked.
In compliance with article L. 122-7 of the Intellectual Property Code, all the participants authorise the Organizers to copy and distribute the work free of charge, or to third parties authorised by the Organisers, with the aim of promoting and highlighting this event and all the plates in all the communication media, such as the press releases, press kits, booklets, leaflets, brochures, tracts, handbooks, Internet sites and all audio and video communication supports.
This copyright authorisation will cease on December 31, 2010, unless there be an individual written agreement stating the contrary, drawn up between the participant and the Organizers.
All the participants are committed to explicitly mention in the contract, that if they should give a transferee all, or some of the rights for the plates drawn during the event, the transferee must be aware that the Organizers agreed on this copyright authorisation until December 31, 2010.
Upon sending this entry form, this means the participant has accepted the present rules, with all the conditions and with no restrictions.
Article 4 : The Organizers rights and obligations
The Organizers are committed, as much as possible, to mention the participants’ names in all the communication media for which one, or several, of their illustrated plates will be shown.
The Organizers are committed to never reveal any personal information, notably all which is written on the entry form, unless it is necessary for the event itself.
The Organizers are held responsible neither for the quality of scanning, nor for the contents of the illustrated plates put online by the participants throughout the event.
